I Love Jelly Bracelets

When I was a little girl, I took all of my jelly bracelets & buried them in the backyard. In my perfectly formed 8 year old logic, this would produce the most magnificent jelly bracelet tree in existence. Kids would come from miles around just to pick jelly bracelets from my tree. Why hadn’t anyone thought of this before? I was a genius!
Just the other day I was griping about those weird Silly Bandz you keep hearing about everywhere. ‘What the heck are these things?’ ‘What is the big deal anyway?’ I keep reading they are banning them in schools, kids are trading them like Pogs (haha! remember those?!?!) & I just didn’t get it. Not until I came across this great article that took me on a little trip down memory lane.
Check it out here:

ps: i really shouldn’t say anything about that girl’s uneven nails, but I guess I just did!
Klah-Vick-Cul
As a word, clavicle is just not sexy. Klah-Vick-Cul = yuck. According to Wikipedia, it is a bone that makes up part of the Shoulder Girdle. Say that 5 times really fast.
But as a body part, showing the clavicle can be really sexy. Now that summer is here – showing off sun kissed shoulders and your clavicle is easy with a great strapless or thin strap dress. Make sure to accessorize with a dainty necklace to not deter from that sexy shoulder girdle!

Please Hire my Outfit
With the availability of jobs kind of slim at the moment, what you wear to an interview & your personal appearance have as much to do with your chances as your skills & experience. It isn’t supposed to be true, but it is, lets be honest.
So, I had a client come in the other day looking for an outfit to wear to an upcoming interview. She wanted something youthful and fresh, but professional & conservative. We went through a couple options & decided on a skirt and a cute blouse with a fun ring.
P.S. She got the job!
If you are afraid of flying, pack silk.
I was perusing the web today & found an article claiming that silk has UV blocking properties, interesting, I thought. Well, it turns out that I have been unable to substantiate such a claim, however I did learn some other (true) interesting things about silk. Namely, I read that silk is actually a triangular shaped thread which is what gives it such a natural shine and luster. Interesting, but boring.
What was more interesting was the fact that silk was used for years as the material for parachutes. This got me thinking, as I get older, my fear of flying increases. I guess it is due to the fact that I feel I have more to lose, or maybe I am just losing that young feeling of immortality. Whatever it is, I’ve decided I’ll feel a lot better if I have these two blouses from Fifteen Twenty packed in my carry-on. Cute with a little extra piece of mind. Perfect!

What to Pack: Austin, Tx
My husband & I are traveling to Austin, TX for my best friend’s baby shower. I can’t decide what I am feeling more anxiety about, traveling with my infant or what to wear in 95 to 100 degree weather! I love the heat, I love going to Austin, it is one of my favorite cities. It doesn’t feel hustly, bustly. It is laid back and easy going, but stylish and modern. I love the restaurants, I love the people & I love getting to visit all of my favorite girlfriends. Now, what to pack?
Perfect & easy. This dress is so lightweight & soft, it feels good to put on. It is even better because you don’t need a bra. Any reason to eliminate an extra layer of clothing in that heat is great, even better it is loose & just skims the body. I love Testament, everything they make is lightweight & perfectly packable. It barely wrinkles & and any slight ones you get are masked by the pattern.
I love Mixie’s cute dresses. They are always figure flattering & a perfect balance of casual & comfortable. Horizontal stripes can be tricky, but the fact that these are more narrow, it makes a little bit of an optical illusion. These stripes definitely don’t make you look wide. The back holds a little surprise itself – it has a deep cowl in the back. It is super cute & another great one to wear without any underpinnings. If you do, anything from a bandeau top to a cami with a punch of color.
So, I think I’ll wear this to the shower. It has such vibrant colors in it, you can really wear any color shoe. I had a client come in the other day with the most beautiful cobalt blue heels she wanted to find some things to match with, this dress was perfect – it doesn’t even have any cobalt in it. Needless to say, I’m getting myself those shoes to wear with this dress. I love the look of the hammered silk & the boning in the bust makes it easy to not wear that uncomfortable & tight strapless bra. I like the length too. Not too long & not too short. Perfectly classy for a lunch with the ladies.
Okay, now I’m getting excited!
How to wear white
Spit-Up & Other Stuff
I love babies, I love my baby most of all, but the thing I don’t love is spit-up. That is kind of a given though, huh? My son has this incredible knack of puking on my cashmere or anything silk, or just at the moment when I am ready to walk out of the house.
A lot of the moms that I have been helping dress over the years have always said that they couldn’t wear white, it would get dirty. It would get spit-up on and ruined. But, the thing I’ve learned is that we new moms should be wearing white all the time. Spit-up is white so it blends perfectly. Just don’t tell anyone & no one will notice. I’ve learned that black is really not my friend at all. It shows every white icky spot.
This Trovata dress is my favorite mom dress right now. It’s cotton & tencel & totally washable. The button down front makes it easy for breastfeeding & the belt hides my slight indiscretions at my midsection. It’s preppy & crisp, makes me look totally pulled together & hits just above the knee.
Mommy Wear
I Refuse.
Before I got pregnant I made a pact with myself:
1. I promise not to cut off all my hair after my baby is born.
2. I promise not to consider yoga pants & a t-shirt & tennis shoes an appropriate outfit unless I am going to the gym.
3. I promise not to wear a hat to hide unwashed hair.
4. I promise to take time for myself.
5. I promise to take care of myself as well as my family.
6. I won’t feel guilty using a great handbag as a diaper bag.
I’m tired but can’t stop
Sign me up for cloning.
Ever since I had my son, I’ve slept less & less. Of course you’d think it was because he is keeping me up with the constant feeding & changing & crying, etc, but really when he naps I’m still up and working. I figure I’ll just sleep later, what do they say, “I’ll sleep when I die”? Something like that. Anyway, I just can’t get myself to shut down and sleep. There is too much to do & less & less time to do it. I keep
thinking I need to hire more people, then I really think I just need to clone myself, or grow 4 more arms. No I need my body to be able to be in more than 1 place at the same time. I’ll take cloning.
I can’t help but wonder, would I wear the same outfit on all my clones, or would I dress them differently so I could tell them apart? Could I give them a better body than the one I have now? Can I pick my body type? Can I choose my pre-baby body? So many questions & go figure they are all about what to wear. I guess that is me in a nutshell. I think I’d wear this dress though, it is my staple right now.
5 Thoughts for Today:
I love people watching. No, let me rephrase that, I LOVE people watching. A perfect day for me would be sitting in the sun at a sidewalk cafe drinking unsweetened iced tea & just watching the people walk by. I went with my husband & the Monster yesterday to grab some lunch, it was a beautiful day, we sat outside, etc, etc. I saw a lady that had hair down past her waist & it prompted quite a few random thoughts, here are 5 of them….
1. I have to figure out a way to take pictures of strangers without it being obvious.
2. I remember being little & not being able to conceptualize how Crystal Gayle went to the bathroom without flushing her hair down the toilet. (I was 5, give me a break)

Crystal Gayle
3. If I had hair that long I’d wear it like Princess Leia at least once a week, I wonder how long it would take for me to style it that way. I’d have to invest in quite a few bobby pins, I wonder if they ever set off the security things at airports?
4. The other day I found one of Monster’s little boogers in my hair & I could remember when he sneezed about 10 minutes prior, it must have been from that. I wonder if she ever finds random stuff in the ends of her hair & can’t identify when or how they got there.
5. Coughing up hairballs, can humans do that?
